Firstly, want to say thank you for taking the time to check out my site. Within these pages you'll find pictures, videos, and blog posts about shrimp- all captured and created by yours truly. While mostly dedicated to my shrimp, other aquatic friends are given a small spotlight of appreciation for those interested.

I not only want to spread the "shrimpy goodness" to the tri- state area surrounding southern NJ by continuing to keep them and to share my experience with others, but now acting as a local, primarily Sulawesi, shrimp breeder to give those nearby an alternative to buying online like I had to. It is not only more expensive due to shipping costs but there is a increased risk of loss during that transport process as well as shortly after. To make things even more difficult, Sulawesi shrimp are notorious for being a lot more sensitive than the much more well- known and kept Neocaridina. Cherry shrimp (red neocaridina) are the most popular of all aquarium shrimp (especially beginners) due to their bold coloration and general hardiness.

Another potential issue with buying Sulawesi shrimp, or honestly any live aquatic specimen, online is that many sites will import their stock for a brief holding period before selling and shipping it back off to customers. These creatures are at an even bigger risk of perishing due to increased stress. There is also almost no way of knowing what the conditions of their original environment were like either, ethically speaking.

Buying from a local breeder is not only more affordable, but also the potential risks of loss during transport to their new home (when proper common sense precautions are taken) is minimal. Will there always be a risk, absolutely. Sometimes one is just a bit to sensitive and/ or old (Sulawesi shrimp live up to two years) and wont make the trip. Another pro about sourcing these unique crustaceans from a local breeder is if you were to loose one within an hour of returning home, it would be able to be replaced without paying another $30+ for next day shipping which is not always covered by online sellers "live arrival guarantee".
